Résumé
Cet article retrace le développement des sources et des œuvres participant à la construction du personnage de Mahomet en islam mais également en dehors, puis explore les conséquences (sur la pensée mais aussi sur les pratiques rituelles, sociales et politiques) des dogmes ainsi construits. Enfin il retrace brièvement l’histoire de l’interprétation d’un épisode placé dans la biographie du Prophète de l’islam : la "scission de la lune".

Abstract
This article traces the development of the sources and works involved in the construction of the character of Muhammad in Islam but also outside; then, it explores the consequences (on the thought but also on the ritual, social and political practices) of the dogmas thus constructed. Finally, it briefly recounts the history of the interpretation of an episode placed in the biography of the Prophet of Islam: the “split of the moon”.
