Abstract
Title: Heroic Youth, Blossoming Victory: About a Hydria in the Louvre Museum (F 44)
An hydria in the Louvre Museum (F 44), figurating the epic – and homeric – tale of the pygmies and cranes, proposes an interesting field of research for the historian. Among the many questions raised by this archaic vase painting are the relationships between pictures and the social context possibly imbedded in them, more precisely an educational discourse concerning athenian youth in the VIth century B.C. How do finally the pictures order this discourse ? Which kind of readings or significations can they afford to the historian ?
Keywords: Geranomachia, education, homosexuality, war, heroism, polis, Homer.
