Archimède 12. 2025. 1-6 Sarôn : récits de chasse et de plongeon volontaire en Grèce ancienne

Résumé :

Sarôn est un héros chasseur qui se jette en mer pour poursuivre une biche, mais meurt noyé après avoir manqué sa proie. Les sources relatives à cette chasse sont peu nombreuses et paraissent parfois contradictoires, en particulier un fragment d’Euphorion. Toutefois, il semble que ces contradictions résultent d’extrapolations et de déformations des scholiastes et commentateurs tardifs. Il est alors possible de restituer plusieurs versions du plongeon aquatique de Sarôn qui insistent chacune sur l’image du chasseur par excellence.

Title: Sarôn: stories of hunting and voluntary diving in ancient Greece

Saron is a heroic hunter who throws himself into the sea to hunt a deer, only to drown after missing his prey. The sources relating to this hunt are few and sometimes seem contradictory, particularly a fragment of Euphorion. However, it seems that these contradictions are the result of extrapolations and distortions by late scholiasts and commentators. It is therefore possible to reconstruct several versions of Saron's diving, each of which emphasises the image of the hunter par excellence.
