Abstract:
Title: Plaster models from the Dole art school: light on a forgotten collection
In 2020-2022, the 219 plaster casts conserved in the Dole school of Fine Art were the subject of a study combining material analysis and archival research. Initiated in the early 19th century, the creation of this collection is the result of collective actions bringing together local actors, who first wished to display copies of masterpieces from antiquity to the eyes of Dole students. Over time, the Dole collection was enriched with various models illustrating all artistic periods for arts education. In Dole, the situation was specific since the museum and the art school coexisted for a long time in the premises of the "Collège de l'Arc", as did their plaster casts collections, which were sometimes mixed. Our contribution will firstly presents the collection and its history, secondly mentions the material study and future of the conserved plaster casts, and thirdly presents the use of these models nowadays.
